Städelschule "Bani Abidi: Funland" (Lecture Series Winter Semester 2020/21)
Bani Abidi has been working with the moving image for the past two decades. She has consistently blurred the edges between fiction and fact while gleaning from the dark absurdities of everyday life. Her staged scenes and anonymous characters struggle with enacting small gestures of resistance, within broader dynamics of state power and nationalism. Abidi, who also draws and photographs, uses humour in all its gravity and firmly believes in the agency of laughter. In this lecture, she will be discussing some of her projects from the past few years.

Bani Abidi was born in 1971 in Pakistan and lives in Berlin. Abidi received a BFA from the National College of Arts, Lahore, in 1995 and an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 2000. She moved to Berlin in 2011 with the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.
